Conversions & Extensions

For existing buildings needing a new life. At the Cartlodge Company we have converted various period buildings whilst staying in-line with our one of our core principles to create contemporary buildings to compliment their surroundings.

These plans are for an un-used piggery on a working farm. The building sustained an extension, making it into a L-shape bungalow with large floor spaces and gorgeous period features.

The extension was built with classic black barn cladding and red tile roof all along to integrate the extension seamlessly to the existing piggery. Large French doors and peaking windows all around the bungalow look out onto encircling traditional red brick Essex farm barns and stables.

Another focus of this build was having private gardens separate to the working farm yard for well earned rest. A section of hideaway bliss, through softwood French doors the gardens open at a raised paved al fresco dining area.

Down the steps, a perimeter curved path leads through bright flower beds to the rear of the property where the newly renovated rear wall of the piggery is found. This wall was certainly one of the main features on the build, restored carefully by our team with traditional lime mortar. Infront of this now feature wall, raised vegetable and herb gardens surrounded by sleepers are found maintained by the potting shed.

This entire build focused on complimenting the rest of the farm whilst adding some contemporary features. By using materials, colours and textures that already live on the farm this goal was achieved.
